Killer caught disposing of evidence
( 2003-09-05 14:32) (China Daily)

A man who allegedly killed his lover in a dispute over money was caught disposing of evidence of the crime by patrolling police in Xingning, reports Guangzhou Daily.

Officers from the Longtian Police Station spotted the suspect, Luo, as they drove past a normally deserted area between two villages at 7 pm on July 29.

When they stopped the nervous-looking Luo, they observed fresh scratches on his neck and arm, and a rope, a knife and a pair of women's shoes were found on his motorcycle.

Police then searched an old abandoned house belonging to Luo's family where they discovered the naked body of a woman.

Luo confessed that the woman, Yuan, had been his secret lover.

He said he needed money to pay his son's college tuition and he had been urging Yuan to return 25,000 yuan (US$3,012), the remainder of a 60,000 loan she borrowed to buy a van.

When they met to discuss the loan at around 6 pm on July 29, Yuan declared she would accuse Luo of rape if he asked for the money again. A fight ensued and he strangled her in anger, Luo said.

He had burned the woman's clothes and was dumping the ashes when he was spotted by police.
