Residents of Yanting Town in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province saw a "Robinson Crusoe" come ashore during Typhoon Dujuan on Tuesday, reports Beijing Morning Post.

The 52-year-old Australian man said he had set sail from Darwin in the Northern Territory one year ago, passing Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries before arriving in Taiwan.

From there, he had set a course for Shanghai when he encountered the storm. The strong winds pushed his damaged boat all the way to Yanting.

The man said he was on a voyage round the world and had already visited more than 60 countries or regions. He said he hoped to stay in Shanghai for a month, then sail on to South Korea and Japan.
