An orthopaedics doctor has been sued by the Putuo Procuratorate for deliberately injuring his "love rival" in direct violation of his promise as a physician to heal, not harm, Youth Daily reports.

Dr Qin, 46, entered the home of his mistress, Jiang, unannounced at 10 pm on June 4.

Qin walked in on a dishevelled and startled Jiang standing by the bed next to Bai, a man she had recently met over the Internet.

Qin was so angry that he picked up a chair and threw it at Bai, who tried to fight back. But Qin grabbed a knife from the kitchen and attacked Bai.

After slashing Bai's forehead, Qin struck the back of his head several times with the flat of the blade.

Bai eventually escaped out the door and ran off. Qin was right behind him with a mop, cleaning up the blood that had dripped from Bai's wound.

But Qin was caught by officers patrolling the area.
