Stand-off for the right to cook ( 2003-09-09 12:44) (China Daily)
A 15-year-old boy barricaded himself in his home in a stand-off with his
family, which was not resolved until police arrived, reports New Express News.
The boy locked himself into - and his family out of - their flat at noon on
Sunday. His parents, grandfather and uncle tried to reason with him for one hour
to no avail.
When the family called a locksmith to come open the door, the boy pounded on
it from inside and threatened to jump from the eighth-floor apartment.
Upon learning that his parents had contacted police, the boy opened the door
in an attempt to run away but was stopped by his uncle. He did not agree to
negotiate matters until police arrived.
His mother, Liang, later disclosed that the family had decided to let the
grandfather cook for the boy so he would be free to focus on his studies. But
the decision outraged the boy, who felt his family was already meddling too much
in his life.
