( 2003-09-10 12:35) (China Daily)

A total of 64 cannon-balls were dug out of the courtyard of a farmer's home in Xinhua Village, Fengbang Town, in the Jiading District on Sunday morning. Experts have not yet determined the origin of the antique armaments, www.eastday.com reports.

Zhou, the 54-year-old owner of the property, said she was planning to dig a well in the courtyard.

At about 8 am, workers found a rusty cannon-ball buried 70 centimetres deep in the ground. They called police soon after.

By 6 pm, a total of 64 cannon-balls, each with a circumference of 30 centimetres and 10 centimetres in diameter, had been unearthed.
