More than 30 passengers on a bus were struck by momentary panic on Sunday afternoon when a girl announced that she had SARS, reports Beijing Times.

The No 44 bus was travelling along as usual when the girl, who was standing right behind the driver, suddenly demanded that he stop and said she was infected with the SARS virus.

When the driver asked if she was kidding, the girl responded in a serious tone of voice and even demanded that she be quarantined.

Her announcement created an instant uproar as all the other passengers moved to the back rows of the vehicle. The driver and conductor immediately contacted medical emergency services and police.

After careful examination, the girl was proclaimed physically healthy with a normal temperature of 36.1 degrees centigrade.
