Eight of nine diners at a restaurant began acting strangely after drinking some medicated wine they brought along to have with their meal on Monday afternoon, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

Five women and four men dined at the restaurant at about 1 pm on Monday, but by the time they asked the waiter for the bill an hour later, they were clearly out of their minds.

Some of them got down on all fours, talking nonsense, while some played with a mop and others lost control of their bladders.

The restaurant's owner arrived at about 4 pm and called for an ambulance, which transported the eight to Ruijin Hospital.

The restaurant was able to save some of the medicated wine and sent it to the Municipal Disease Control and Prevention Centre for analysis.
