50 Mercedes-Benz cabs on way

Altogether 50 Mercedes-Benz E220s will take to the streets of Shanghai as
taxis next month, reports www.eastday.com. The vehicles are currently being
shipped from Germany to Shanghai.
Dazhong Group got the idea to operate the cars as taxis last year, but
imports were delayed due to complicated permit procedures and SARS. And the
German manufacturer also hesitated to allow the luxury car to be used as a taxi
for fear it would degrade Mercedes-Benz's reputation, according to insiders.
The posh taxis will charge the same fares as other taxis in the city, said a
spokesperson from Dazhong Group.
