A two metre-long snake found its way into a kindergarten on Hongmei Road Wednesday afternoon but later escaped up a cedar tree after being frightened by the gatekeeper, Jiefang Daily reports.

A teacher at the kindergarten noticed the snake on the lawn when he went out to empty the garbage.

The school's gatekeeper tried to scare the snake away, but in its fright it slithered up into the branches of the nearby tree.

Police and property management staff then arrived to the scene, trying to catch the snake, but none of them could spot it in the thick foliage.

A team of firefighters eventually managed to capture the snake as it tried to hide at the top of the tree.

The kindergarteners, meanwhile, were all taking a sound nap throughout the entire snake hunting.
