Large expo center being built in Suzhou ( 2003-09-28 10:03) (Xinhua) Suzhou City, a tourist hot spot in east China,
started building a grand expo center on Saturday in the China-Singapore
Industrial Park with an investment of roughly 2.2 billion yuan (265 million US
dollars).
Suzhou has attracted many travelers and business people for both its
traditional scenic sites and dramatic development over the past few years, said
Mayor Yang Weize.
The building of the expo center is expected to give the city more
opportunities to hold conferences and exhibitions, Yang said.
The center, a huge building planned to occupy an area of 188, 000 square
meters, will comprise 14 exhibition halls and 7,000 stands. The whole site will
be operational by the end of 2005.
The industrial park of Suzhou is a cooperative project between the Chinese
and Singaporean governments. It has created a new model for Sino-foreign
economic and technological cooperation.
