A two-year-old girl was beaten so badly by her mother that she suffered bleeding in her brain - all because she peed in her pants, Shanghai Youth Daily reports.

Doctors drained about 30 ml of fluid from Xiner's head in the Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Fudan University after a four-hour operation on October 6.

The hospital reported the case to the police as the doctors suspected the girl had been abused.

According to Wu Qiang, the father, the family moved from Chongqing to Shanghai last year; and his wife Zhang Fang stayed at home while he worked on a wharf.

Xiner, an inactive kid who did not talk too much regularly urinated in her pants, which annoyed Zhang very much.

On October 6, Zhang gave Xiner a heavy slap on the face after finding her peeing again.

Zhang has been held by police while Xiner is not yet declared out of danger; she has to undergo more surgery in two to three years.
