Station vows to keep classical music show
( 2003-10-14 14:38) (China Daily)

Senior executives at Guangzhou Radio Station have promised not to cancel Gudian Zongheng ("classical music world"), a popular programme that was shortened in March, after fans protested last week, reports New Express News.

More than 100 avid listeners took part in a signature campaign at a Guangzhou university last Thursday to petition for the radio show, which was trimmed from two hours each night to one, to continue.

Many worried that the 10-year-old programme would eventually be cancelled due to a lack of advertising revenue.

"The time slot adjustment for Gudian Zongheng was an attempt to cater to a busier audience," said Tan Tianxuan, head of the station's programming department.

Gudian Zongheng will now "sample" classical music works while complete pieces will be broadcast on other programmes.

And classical music fans in the city should not worry about being neglected as the radio station is planning to launch a classical music channel.
