City meets pollution control norms

Shenzhen has met all industrial pollution control standards in a
provincial-level inspection, reports the Guangzhou-based Nanfang Daily.
It is the first city all over the country which has met the State norms, said
Li Qing, director of the Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau.
In addition to strictly screening all new projects for the possible
environmental hazards they might create, the city has ordered 187 polluting
enterprises to clean up their operations by next July.
