New police measure bans 'photo studios' ( 2003-10-15 15:04) (Chian Daily)
Guangdong police have announced 23 special measures to facilitate dealings
with the public, including doing away with "police designated photo studios",
reports New Express News.
Some police stations were found to be engaged in profit-sharing deals with
certain photo studios by appointing them as the only places where photos for IDs
could be taken.
Photos taken at any studio are acceptable as long as they meet the proper
size requirements, according to one of the 23 measures announced at Monday's
press conference.
And people who lose their identification cards no longer have to wait three
months - the "loss declaration" period - before applying for a replacement.
Reports of lost cards and applications for new cards will be processed
simultaneously.
The 23 measures were drafted after analyzing 630,000 suggestion forms and
interviews with 110,000 people, said Zheng Shaodong, deputy director of the
Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau.
