1,000 yuan in damages for curse ( 2003-10-15 15:04) (China Daily)
A man has been ordered to compensate a business rival for sending him a
"curse" message on Chinese New Year's Day, reports Guangzhou Daily.
Liang, who lives in Foshan's Shunde District, received a short cellphone
message from Tan, with whom he was embroiled in several business disputes, on
Chinese New Year's Day earlier this year. The message wished Liang "ill fortune
every year and trouble every day".
Liang hauled Tan to court, saying he was greatly distressed to receive such a
message on the festive day.
The court ruled against Tan, but reduced the compensation for psychological
torment to 1,000 yuan (US$120) from the 15,000 yuan (US$1,800) demanded by
Liang.
