60,000 view leaves on Fragrant Hill ( 2003-10-21 11:34) (China Daily)
About 60,000 tourists visited Fragrant Hill on Saturday to view the trees'
red leaves, according to the park's administrative bureau, Beijing Youth Daily
reports.
The bureau recorded a 20 per cent increase in visitors over the same day last
year, which was attributed to the fact that the leaves began turning red earlier
than usual this year due to a sudden sharp drop in temperatures.
According to experts, the best period for viewing the autumn colours will
begin on Thursday.
As long as the weather stays relatively calm, the colours should remain
stunning until the middle of November, said the bureau.
