Youth suicidal over uniform

A young man tried to slice his wrist after his request to borrow an armed
police officer's uniform was refused, Jiefang Daily reports.
Hu Zeping, an armed policeman stationed in Pudong, was on duty Sunday morning
when the young man approached him.
The youth produced 300 yuan (US$36) and said he was from rural Hebei Province
in North China. He wanted to borrow Hu's uniform for a photo because a girl he
hoped to impress said she would only marry a soldier.
Hu explained that it was illegal for him to lend his uniform to a civilian,
no matter how much money the man offered him.
The young man was so downcast that he tried to slice open his wrist with a
blade. But Hu stopped him and spent half an hour persuading him not to kill
himself.
