Stranded passengers block security check ( 2003-10-21 13:37) (China Daily)
More than 100 passengers stranded overnight at Baiyun International Airport
blocked the airport's security checkpoint for half an hour on Sunday, reports
Nanfang Metropolis News.
China Eastern Airlines passengers were scheduled to fly to Nanjing on
Saturday evening, but the plane did not arrive until midnight.
Unhappy with the 300 yuan (US$36) per head offered by the airline as
reparation, the more than 100 passengers refused to board the delayed plane.
With no food or lodging, except for some instant noodles, the passengers had to
stay in the departure lounge overnight.
When the airport started operations on Sunday morning, the passengers blocked
the security checkpoint in protest.
Guangzhou's hotels were fully booked because of the ongoing China Export
Commodity Fair, He, a manager with China Eastern Airlines, later
explained.
