'Would you return 10 million yuan?' ( 2003-10-23 15:50) (China Daily) In a random poll conducted by
Southern Metropolis News, 200 Guangzhou residents were asked, "If you found 10
million yuan (US$1.21 million), would you try to find the rightful owner and
return it?"
Eighty-four said they would.
Fifty-six said they would not, 35 said they weren't sure and the remainder
refused to answer.
The survey was inspired by the story of Peng Guosheng, a taxi driver who
returned 10 million yuan in cash left in his car by a passenger on Monday.
Most senior citizens said they would definitely return the money, while the
majority of young people questioned said they definitely would not.
Some of those who weren't sure backed up their responses by explaining, "I
might donate the money to Project Hope," or "That's too much money to pocket - I
would keep the money if it was a lesser amount."
