A careless man who kept his bank card, identity card and ATM PIN in an unlocked drawer was robbed twice by an acquaintance before he realized his losses, reports Daily Sunshine.

The thief, a woman surnamed Qin, was a friend of a roommate of the victim, Li.

Qin visited Li's flat on May 24. When nobody was around, she rummaged through Li's drawers and found a bank card and its PIN.

She succeeded in withdrawing 100 yuan (US$12) from Li's account at an ATM. But in her excitement, Qin fumbled the second withdrawal and the card was swallowed by the machine. Refusing to give up, the woman visited again three days later - and found Li's ID card in the same unlocked drawer.

She used the ID card to redeem the bank card, then withdrew 4,800 yuan (US$578).

But her second visit turned out to be her undoing. Li immediately suspected her when he found the money missing from his account.

The woman has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nanshan District People's Court in Shenzhen.
