Two men placed a 25-kilogram stone in the middle of railway tracks, hoping to stop a train and get a free trip to their hometown, reports Xiaoxiang Morning Post.

Zhang Minggui, 26, and Yang Baoping, 24, got the idea on Saturday when they were about to leave Changsha to visit their homes in Shimen County.

When a freight train hit the stone and stopped, they discovered it was not heading in the direction they wanted to go.

They stood amongst some other onlookers, watching as the train tried to get under way again.

But the two men started running when they saw police arriving, giving themselves away.

They were caught and punished with 15 days each in police custody.
