Chen Yiyao, who sustained serious injuries on Sunday afternoon after being hit by "Mad Mouse" roller coaster cars at the World Carnival in Pudong, is still under close observation at Shanghai East Hospital, Shanghai Labour Daily reports.

The 19-year-old freshman is studying at Shanghai Normal University.

On Monday evening, doctors detected a haematoma on one of Chen's kidneys, which they described as "a time bomb that could explode any moment".

After a woman visitor's persistent requests to retrieve a wig that flew off her head and fell to the ground within some of the roller coaster's rails, Chen received approval from a carnival administrator on the spot to enter the track area. He was hit while reaching for the wig.

The woman slipped away soon after the accident, without showing concern for the victim.
