Cellphone messages assure parents ( 2003-10-30 12:29) (China Daily)
Before Ye Xiaoman entered school on Friday morning, she placed her finger on
an infrared scanner at the entrance gate.
Within seconds, a computer connected to the scanner sent a mobile phone
message to her parents: "Your child, Ye Xiaoman, arrived at Dongfeng No 2
Primary at 7:01 am on October 24, 2003."
The school, which is in the Haizhu District, will officially kick off the
messaging service, which informs parents of students' arrival and departure
times, next term. Parents who sign up for the programme will be charged 12 yuan
(US$1.45) a month.
In a school survey, more than 76 per cent of parents welcomed the measure
designed to reassure them of their children's safety.
Parents can also upgrade the service to receive their children's test results
and teachers' comments through mobile phone messages.
