Telephone users in China rose to 500.44 million by the end of September, Ministry of Information Industry figures show. The ministry did not provide a percentage increase but compared with previously issued figures for the end of September last year, the number of telephone users was up 26 percent year on year. Of the total number of users at the end of September this year, fixed-line subscribers totaled 250.47 million against 249.97 million mobile phone customers, the ministry said in a notice posted Thursday on its Web site. The ministry also did not provide separate figures for September. However, based on previously published data for the end of August, there were 11.39 million new telephone users last month. Growth in the number of new mobile phone users outpaced that of fixed-lined subscribers in September, rising by 5.85 million compared with 5.54 million, respectively.
