Guangdong is requiring kindergartens to provide separate boys' and girls' bathrooms in a new sanitation checklist drafted by the health and education authority, reports Yangcheng Evening News.

Many kindergartens have only one bathroom because the teachers, who accompany children to the toilet, are all women.

But an increasing number of parents have protested the practice, saying it confuses the gender-conscious children.

Kindergartens will lose points, which may lead to suspension or even loss of licence, if they are found to make boys and girls use the same bathroom, according to the regulation.
