Nine key areas along Beijing's 25-kilometre central axis have been designated as culturally-protected zones, reports Beijing Star Daily.

According to the paper, the construction of any new buildings within a 500-metre range of the axis must adhere to strict rules. No random development will be allowed along the axis in a bid to protect cultural and historic relics in the nine areas.
