Shenzhen police have rounded up a five-member robbery gang who lured homosexual men over the Internet, reports Shenzhen Commercial Daily.

After a Hong Kong man was robbed of HK$20,000 on October 24, Luohu District police posted eight undercover officers at cyber cafes on Honggui Road and Badeng Street on October 27.

A suspect appeared at a cyber cafe at the Xinhua Hotel on November 3 and started chatting up another man.

Shortly after they checked into a room at 11:10 pm, four others arrived and robbed the man of his jewellery and cash, police said.

But police officers were unable to take action until the victim decided to report the robbery half an hour later.

The suspects had successfully committed at least 10 similar robberies since September, partly because the victims were reluctant to report the crime, police said.
