Pet owners are now forbidden from walking their dogs in Tian'anmen Square, at Beijing Railway Station and on Wangfujing Street, three main tourist destinations in the capital, reports Beijing Morning Post.

The regulation was issued to keep order in those solemn or otherwise crowded areas and to protect the safety of others.

People who violate the regulation may be fined 500 yuan (US$60) or have their dog licences revoked.
