China's Yunnan, Vietnam strengthen cooperation ( 2003-11-24 21:47) (Xinhua) China's Yunnan Province and
Vietnam, in an agreement signed here Monday, agreed to boost multi-faceted
cooperation, especially in the fields of trade and tourism.
The agreement was reached by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and
visiting Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of
China, Bai Enpei, on Monday.
While meeting with Bai Enpei, Khoan said Vietnam is creating upgrading
infrastructure in localities adjacent to Yunann to facilitate transport. The
country is upgrading roads from its northern Lao Cai Province to other places,
and building the Cai Lan Seaport in Quang Ninh Province.
To further tap trade and tourism potentials of Yunnan, Vietnam has
established its general consulate in the province, he noted.
On its part, Yunnan will promote the cooperation with Vietnamese localities
in every field, Bai Enpei said, adding that the province will make greater
efforts in upgrading its roads and railways to boost tourism, and import more
Vietnamese seafood.
Yunnan would like to exploit aluminum bauxite in Vietnam's central highlands
province of Lam Dong, he noted.
At the meeting, the two sides also mentioned the protocol on fisheries among
other things.
