Foreigner's abuse triggers protest ( 2003-11-26 17:25) (China Daily) A foreigner who was overheard
verbally abusing a cashier at a Jusco department store in Shenzhen triggered a
protest involving about 100 Chinese shoppers, reports Daily Sunshine.
The foreigner appeared impatient with the check-out speed and started yelling
at the cashier in English at around 8 pm on Thursday.
Another customer, identified as Song, confronted the man because he had used
abusive language, but the foreigner physically attacked him.
Jusco staff took the agitated man into an office, but shoppers angered by his
outburst refused to leave.
They gathered outside the office, chanting: "Apologize! Apologize!"
The stand-off did not end until 11 pm when police came to escort the
foreigner away.
