10 museums to showcase capital
( 2003-12-02 16:29) (China Daily)

About 10 museums and exhibition halls presenting the ancient culture of Beijing are to be built in the capital city's Xuanwu District over the next few years, reports Beijing Evening News.

The museums and exhibition halls will display paintings, calligraphy and handicrafts, and depict shops, sacrifices, pilgrimages, weddings and funerals in ancient Beijing.

The historic Xuanwu District, located in Southern Beijing and regarded as the birthplace of the nation's capital, was a hub of ancient temples and cultural societies.

To protect the temples and ancient culture as well as inform local people and visitors from home and abroad about the folk customs of Beijing, the district government co-operated with architects, archaeologists and folklorists to design and initiate the huge project.
