A man who raped and killed his wife before chopping up her body has received the death penalty, reports Southern Metro News.

Li Cairi returned to his rented flat in Guangzhou on May 28, 2002 and got into a quarrel with his wife.

After finding a cigarette butt at home, he suspected his wife was having an affair.

When the woman refused to have sex with him because she was two months pregnant, Li raped her and strangled her in the process.

Then he chopped up her body and threw the parts into a river before fleeing to his hometown outside of Guangdong Province.

The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court said it handed down the death sentence due to the cruel manner in which he committed the murder.
