Woman jailed as namesake fugitive ( 2003-12-02 16:35) (China Daily)
A young woman has received 25,000 yuan (US$3,020) as compensation for being
mistakenly jailed as a fugitive, reports Southern Metro News.
Liu Caixia, a native of Gaozhou, was arrested on October 24 at a checkpoint
in Shenzhen because she had the same name and was of the same age and hometown
as a theft suspect wanted by police.
The young woman protested to no avail and was detained for seven days before
police released her on November 1, with profuse apologies.
Another Liu Caixia, who colluded with two men to rob a foreigner, is still at
large, police explained.
