More foreign blockbusters to be shown in China next year
( 2003-12-12 16:04) (Xinhua)

Four new foreign movies, three of  which are from Hollywood, have been scheduled for cinemas in China from January next year.

The four films are "The Rundown", "Master and Commander" and " Mona Lisa Smile" from Hollywood, and  "Fanfan La Tulipe" from  France, said officials from China's Film Exhibition and  Distribution Corporation.

More films, including "The Lord of the Rings III" and "The Last Samurai" starring Tom Cruise are expected to be imported later in  the year, they said.

Statistics show that imported films almost account for 50-60  percent of China's box office income each year. The biggest draw " Titanic" generated 320 million yuan (39 million dollars) in box  office revenue in 1998, more than one fifth of the country's total box office income that year.
