After three years of appraisal by food experts, 448 varieties of Shanghai dishes have been crowned "famous dishes and snacks" of Shanghai, symbolizing the establishment of Shanghai-style food as a cuisine in its own right, Shanghai Evening Post reports.

Since 2001, experts in the food and beverage industry have been selecting and discussing thousands of dishes prepared by hotels and restaurants in the city.

A total of 448 items were chosen, among them 384 different dishes and 64 kinds of snacks, including both traditional and trendy fare.

Chinese cuisine has developed from the original four styles to 24 distinct cuisines, but this marks the official entry of Shanghai signature dishes to the circle.
