HK consumer satisfaction level record high in 2003 ( 2003-12-30 22:00) (Xinhua) City University of Hong
Kong's Department of Management Sciences Tuesday announced its findings - "Hong
Kong Consumer Satisfaction Index 2003" (HKCSI) in Hong Kong.
It revealed that the overall satisfaction level of Hong Kong consumers has a
record high increase in 2003.
In 2003, HKCSI increased 4.3 per cent to a record high of 67.9 from the
record low of 65.1 in 2002, attributing to the overall improvement in consumer
satisfaction with all sectors of the retail markets with 91.3 per cent of
products' CSIs increased in 2003, Geoffrey Tso, Associate Professor of the
Department of Management Sciences of City University said.
The HKCSI bases on findings from more than 10,000 consumer interviews
successfully conducted by the Department in July and August using a computer
assisted telephone interview system, according to Tso.
Sixty nine commodities and services have been taken into account in
calculating the index, accounting for 75 per cent of the weightings in the Hong
Kong Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Tso said, in particular, Information & Entertainment witnessed a
substantially higher Sub-HKCSI increase of 5.5 per cent.
HKCSI is a performance indicator developed by the university's Department of
Management Sciences for Hong Kong business, measuring the satisfaction level of
Hong Kong consumers towards the quality of most goods and services. Since 1998,
the Department releases its findings every year.
