Canton to Paris routes take off
( 2004-01-07 09:58) (China Daily by Zhan Lishen)

The first passenger flight from Paris to Guangzhou landed in the capital of South China's Guangdong Province yesterday.

Inaugurated by Air France, the Paris-Guangzhou route is operated by Airbus A340-300 five times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; and will run daily as of June 14.

The service makes Air France the first European airline to fly to Guangzhou, as well as the first European airline to fly to four Chinese destinations Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Guangzhou and other Pearl River Delta cities constitute one of the most affluent regions in China, and direct flights between Guangzhou and Paris will help boost the economic, cultural and social contacts between France and South China, noted Jean-Cyril Spinetta, chairman of Air France.
