Swire may up invest in China JV to 3.6 billion yuan
( 2004-01-31 15:08) (Agencies)

Swire Pacific's Ltd. plans to raise its investment in its a China-based property joint venture to 3.6 billion yuan (US$434 million) from 2.2 billion in order to rescue the troubled project, the Standard reports.

Citing Martin Cubbon, finance director of the group's property arm Swire Properties, the paper says Swire is likely to raise its stake in the joint venture to at least 90% from 55% after a proposed restructuring.

Swire and partner Guangzhou Daily, a newspaper group, signed a 4 billion yuan joint venture deal in April 2002.

The paper says the project has been dormant since then as Guangzhou Daily - which holds the rights to the land - ran into trouble after allegations of fraud and corruption were made at two former senior executives.
