Acting on a clue obtained while chatting with an old friend, a policeman in Miyun County on the outskirts of Beijing cracked a four-year-old murder case, Beijing News reports.

When one of his former classmates mentioned that a drunk man named Yu Xiaolong once bragged to him of fighting with a cabby during Spring Festival in 2000, Zhen Boyin recalled the unsolved murder case involving a taxi driver four years ago.

Zhen followed up the clue immediately and found the suspect Yu, who confessed that he helped his friend Ma beat the cabby to death because of a quarrel over taxi fare.

The two suspects have been detained.
