The lane is made of 216 pieces of stones, which are as thin as skin. Thus local residents named it as Shipi (the skin of the stone). The lane is also described as "One thread of Sky" in Xitang as people can only see a thread of the sky in the lane. Yang has spent more than 40 years making buttons by hand. The town, with a long history of producing buttons, is a major button production base in China. The south-north tunnel is 1,269 metres long, including 800 metres under the lake. The tunnel is expected to relieve much of the traffic congestion around the lake, a famous scenic spot.
