State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) officially opened the Internet-based patent application system on March 12 -- the day coincidentally marking the 20th anniversary of the Patent Law implementation.

This makes China one of the few advanced countries in the world following Japan, the United States and the Republic of Korea, in terms of using the method of electronic-edition patent application. This will further help China improve the efficiency of patent applications, said SIPO's Vice-Commissioner Tian Lipu.

Patent applicants or agencies can log on the website www.cponline.gov.cn to apply for patents.
