China to resume export of cooked poultry meat to Japan

Export from China of cooked poultry meat to Japan is expected to be resumed soon, according to China's State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The administration, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture have organized a delegation to Japan to negotiate resuming imports of Chinese cooked poultry meat, and substantial progress has been made, administration officials said.

Before that, Japan had resumed importing canned and bottled poultry meat, preserved eggs and other poultry products from China.

In addition, Hong Kong has agreed to resume importing frozen poultry meat from designated mainland poultry farms and processing plants starting March 23.

So far, some countries including the Republic of Korea and Singapore, as well as China's Hong Kong and Macao regions, have resumed the import of cooked poultry meat from the Chinese mainland, according to the administration.

On March 16, China's Ministry of Agriculture announced the ending of isolation in the last two bird flu-hit areas in the country, thus putting an end to the 49-day campaign over the deadly H5N1 strain of avian flu.

The administration will make continued efforts to help resume more poultry exports, officials said.
