Women basketball centers to have new coach from France

The Chinese women's national basketball team will invite a French coach to train its centers for one month, a top Chinese basketball official said Tuesday.

"The French coach will focus his efforts in training our centers for a period of one month," said Wang Du, vice director ofthe Chinese basketball administration center.

While failure to identify the French coach, Wang said that he was the "technical supervisor" of the French men's basketball teamduring the Sydney Olympics where France lost to the United States for a second-place finish.

Wang further explained that the French coach "has his own ways of training for the centers as well as physical tune-ups."

Chen Nan, the woman center in the Chinese national team, said that "I didn't see him yet, maybe he will come when our team gathers up for training. Since he is being invited by the center, I think he is capable of enhancing our skills and boosting our spirits."

In February, the Chinese basketball association hired its firstforeign coaches, namely NBA Mavericks assistant coach Del Harris and former Lithuanian national coach Jonas Kazlauskas to take the helm of the Chinese men's national team as coach and assistant coach respectively in the Athens Olympics.
