Fresh fighting between US forces and Shi'ite militiamen erupted in a Baghdad neighbourhood on Monday, with two Apache helicopters firing on targets in the area, Reuters journalists at the scene said.

A US vehicle was also in flames in the area, a predominantly Shi'ite neighbourhood.

On Sunday, fighting in another Shi'ite area of Baghdad, the impoverished Sadr City district, claimed the lives of at least 28 Iraqis and seven US soldiers.
