East China's Zhejiang Province exported US$192 million worth of auto parts during the first four months of the year, up 95.4 percent year-on-year, according to local customs.

The province, one of China's leading economic generators, has turned into a major base in the country for manufacturing auto parts for export, which account for 16.9 percent of the country's total exports in auto parts.

Local auto part exports hit US$361 million in 2003, 6.12 times the figure in 1998, said the customs.

The shift of manufacturing centers by overseas auto giants to China, as well as the expansion and improvement of the auto industry in Zhejiang are the main reasons behind the big increase in local auto part exports.
