Iverson, Allen named NBA Players of the Week
Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson and guard Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics have been selected the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played between March 21-27.
Iverson was the driving force behind three Sixers' victories in three games, as the All-Star averaged 31.7 points, 10.7 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.3 rebounds. Iverson racked up 39 points, 10 assists and five steals in Philadelphia's 107-84 win over Detroit on March 23, then followed up with a 36-point, seven assist performance against Toronto two days later. He also hit the game-winning shot with 2.4 seconds left in the 103-101 triumph over the Raptors. Allen helped Seattle to a 3-1 record and averaged 28.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists. The veteran guard poured in 40 points and pulled down nine boards to lead the Sonics to an overtime victory over New York on March 25 and compiled 27 points and eight rebounds in a one-point loss to Washington on Sunday. Others considered for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Charlotte's Primoz Brezec, Brevin Knight and Emeka Okafor, Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Andre Miller, Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami's Shaquille O'Neal and Phoenix's Shawn Marion.
