Rui Costa extends Milan deal
AC Milan's Portuguese midfielder Rui Costa has extended his deal with the Italian champions until 2007, the club said on Tuesday. The 33-year-old, whose contract was due to end in June 2006, now plans to finish his career with the Champions League quarter-finalists.
"As soon as they offered me this deal I accepted," he told reporters. "I am very happy with the offer and it means that I will end my career here with Milan." Rui Costa has regained a regular place in the Milan side this season but has not added to his tally of only three league goals since arriving from Fiorentina in 2001. Asked what he would like to achieve between now and the end of his contract, Rui Costa joked: "A goal". He has scored just three times in 91 league appearances for the club. The midfielder is in his 11th season in Italy after moving to Fiorentina from Portuguese club Benfica in 1994. He helped Milan win the Champions League in 2003 and the Italian league title last season. Milan face city rivals Inter in a Champions League quarter-final, first-leg match on Wednesday.
