The 13th world boxing championships will be held in Mianyang of southwest China's Sichuan Province from November 5 to 14 this year, organizers said on Wednesday.

It will be the first time for China to host amateur boxing's premier competition.

Zheng Heping, vice mayor of Mianyang, the second largest city of Sichuan Province after its capital Chengdu, said that all the cost for staging the event will be raised through sponsorships, advertisement and souvenir sales, instead of governmental funds.

Zheng added that boxers from 62 countries and regions have confirmed their participation and the event will attract some 4,000 boxers, referees, officials and fans.

A new 6,000-seat gymnasium is under construction for the championships.

Mianyang has hosted several big sports events since 2000, including the National Farmers' Games, the National Sports Gala, the International Sports Dancing Open and the 6th Asian Dragonboat Championships.
