Rockets choose Head in first round
The Houston Rockets took Luther Head of Illinois with the 24th pick in the NBA Draft. Head led the Fighting Illini with 15.9 points per game and was part of a lethal three-guard lineup that led Illinois to the Final Four. The 6-foot-3 senior added 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game for the Illini who finished the season with a 37-2 record -- best in the nation. Head, a Chicago native, was a second-team All-American. One of his backcourt mates, Deron Williams, was chosen third by the Utah Jazz, while guard Dee Brown returned to school after a flirtation with the NBA. Head becomes the Rockets' first pick in the first round since 2002 when they drafted Yao Ming and Bostjan Nachbar.
