The Houston Rockets took Luther Head of Illinois with the 24th pick in the NBA Draft.

Head led the Fighting Illini with 15.9 points per game and was part of a lethal three-guard lineup that led Illinois to the Final Four.

The 6-foot-3 senior added 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game for the Illini who finished the season with a 37-2 record -- best in the nation.

Head, a Chicago native, was a second-team All-American.

One of his backcourt mates, Deron Williams, was chosen third by the Utah Jazz, while guard Dee Brown returned to school after a flirtation with the NBA.

Head becomes the Rockets' first pick in the first round since 2002 when they drafted Yao Ming and Bostjan Nachbar.
