Olympic team's despair at blasts

Updated: 2005-07-08 09:05 Livingstone, who at a press conference just hours earlier had cheerfully
discussed his city's plans to make the 2012 Games the "greatest ever", cut a
sombre, but resolute, figure.
"Nothing you (terrorists) do, no matter how many of us you kill, will stop
that flight to our cities where freedom is strong and where people can live in
harmony with one another," Livingstone said.
"Londoners will not be divided by these cowardly attacks. They will stand
together in solidarity around those who have been injured.
"Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail."
Mills said any thoughts of an Olympic celebration on the team's return to
London had been erased.
"It's terribly unfortunate in terms of timing and clearly all our
celebrations of the result yesterday will have to be put on hold," Mills said.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which voted 54-50 on Wednesday
night to give London the 2012 Games ahead of Paris, expressed no doubt the city
would still be able provide a secure environment for the event.
